Dare County Times/Coastland Times — The Dare County Digital Heritage collection contains an online digital archive and searchable index covering over 70 years of past issues of the Dare County Times (1935-1945) and The Coastland Times (1951-2009) newspapers that document life on the Outer Banks, North Carolina during this historic period. Funding for this project is from the Outer Banks Community Foundation and the Dare County Library and through an agreement between Times Printing Company, Inc. (publisher of the Dare County Times and The Coastland Times newspapers) and the Dare County Library.

Gregory Williams Outer Banks Genealogy Collection — The Gregory Williams Outer Banks Genealogy Collection contains Outer Banks family names, family group sheets and pedigree charts dating from the mid-1700s to the mid-1990s. This is a small sampling of the complete Collection housed in the Manteo Library. Funding for the online Gregory Williams Outer Banks Genealogy Collection was provided by Dare County Library.

The Sea Chest is an online collection includes 23 issues of Sea Chest magazine (1973-2002), an award winning student magazine from Cape Hatteras School. Sea Chest covers Hatteras Island culture and history through news articles, interviews and photographs of times gone by. This digitization project is made possible through funding from the Dare County Library and through an agreement between Cape Hatteras Secondary School (publisher of the Sea Chest magazine) and the Dare County Library.

The Public Library Association's site, DigitalLearn.org is an online hub for digital literacy support and training.

If you are new to computers, haven't used them for a while, are a little unsure and uncomfortable, or just need a bit of a refresher, we have the tools to help you tackle technology at your own pace and gain the confidence you need to succeed. 

Included in DigitalLearn.org is a collection of self-directed tutorials for end-users to increase their digital literacy. Modules are video-based with narration, typically 6 to 22 minutes long, written in plain language.

DigitalLearn.org provides intentional, foundational instruction to be taken at the pace of the learner.

 E-iNC - Accessing eBooks and
Audiobooks through the Libby app 

East Albemarle Regional Library (EARL) is making the move to E-iNC, a digital library on the Libby app. All devices - even Kindle PaperWhites - can access ebooks, audiobooks, comics and magazines via E-iNC Digital Library. 

E-iNC Digital Library pools the resources of over 30 North Carolina public library systems giving you access to all of our digital materials. Search through the catalog of over 47,000 titles to find exactly what you’re looking for. 

Getting Started

1.   Download the app:  Libby.

2.  Once you’re on Libby, click on "Search for a Library"

   
3.  Type in ‘East Albemarle Regional Library’
4.  Select "E-iNC Library"

5.  Sign in with your library card number and pin (you may have to click East Albemarle again.)

6.  You're all set!  Enjoy using the Libby app for eBooks and audiobooks.

PaperWhite Inclusive 

Yes, Kindle Paperwhites can access the E-iNC Digital Library. Simply download Libby, look for ‘East Albemarle Regional Library,’ check out your title, and choose to ‘Send Title to Amazon.’ From your Amazon account, select ‘Send to Paperwhite’ and you’re on your way!

The Dare County Library's Library Speakers Consortium showcases a virtual author talk series each month featuring bestselling, award-winning, and highly acclaimed authors from around the world. The featured writers and thought leaders will cover a wide range of fiction and nonfiction genres.

This new feature was made possible by funding provided by the Dare County Library Foundation. 

The free, virtual series takes place two to three times a month and includes the opportunity to ask questions to the author. A complete list of events is available on Dare County Library's virtual author talk series website at LSC | Dare County Library Webinars and Online Events.

NC Kids Digital Library has over 5,000 eBooks for preschoolers through Grade 4. Over 1,000 of these can be borrowed by more than one user at the same time. (Look for the "Never-Ending Reading" shelf for these titles or click on "Always Available" at the top of the home page.) Access with your 14-digit Dare County Library Card barcode and library-assigned PIN. Select "East Albemarle Regional Library" (not "Albemarle Regional Library") as your library. NC LIVE is an online collection of regional and national magazines, journals, newspapers, audiobooks, eBooks (including HomeGrown titles from North Carolina publishers), videos, genealogy, test preparation, language learning, health information, literature, information about local and national businesses, and more. NC LIVE is available to registered borrowers of the Dare County Library in the library or from work, school, or home.
