Any Dare County student can remotely apply for and receive a library card account that will allow them to access the digital offerings, such as e-books and digital audiobooks. Please note that library staff must be able to verify that you or your students is a Dare County resident or the child of a property owner in order to issue an account number.

The Dare County Library has an assortment of free print and electronic resources for students in grades K-12. Our electronic resources, such as databases and eBooks, can be accessed from home or school year-round. Find out more about each of these resources in the information below!

The N.C. Kids Digital Library has eBooks available through Grade 4. It has multiple copies available but does not allow holds.  hoopla offers a "Kids Mode." 


DARE COUNTY LIBRARY JUVENILE BOOK COLLECTIONS:

Fiction Collection:

The Dare County Library has nearly 11,000 stories and novels for children in elementary school and middle school to browse. The library's three branches also offer many titles from both the "Battle of the Books," "Fiction Diggers!" and "Accelerated Reader" school reading programs.

Non-Fiction Collection:

The Dare County Library's children's non-fiction collection supports school report needs and is also intended for recreational reading pertaining to children's hobbies and interests.

Additionally, books and other library materials from all eight libraries within the East Albemarle Regional Library System are also available for patrons to borrow. Ask library staff how you can request that a book be sent to your closest library using our free delivery service.

Teen Collection:

The Dare County Library recognizes that teens ages 13-16 have unique reading needs for education, entertainment and enlightenment. Therefore, age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction books are located in a separate teen area, providing teens their own area of the library. 


DIGITAL RESOURCES:

A Dare County Library account provides access to eBooks, digital magazines, databases and more! These resources can be accessed 24/7 from any internet-capable device with internet access. If you are a student and don't have a library card, you can complete the form below and receive via email a library card number and PIN (personal identification number) that will allow you to access our digital resources.

The World Book Online suite of digital learning resources that has age and reading level appropriate databases including World Book Kids, Student, Advanced and Timelines for ages 6 to adult. This is a great resource to use for school and research assignments.

World Book Online is compatible with on iPads, computers and Chromebooks, and it's free for registered Dare County Library borrowers. Simply log on using your library card number.

The Dare County Library offers two separate platforms for children's eBooks:

hoopla Kids Mode helps parents and their children discover kid-friendly content. When you turn on Kids Mode, you’ll only see content recommended for kids 12 and younger.  Access hoopla Digital Library using your 14-digit library card number and PIN (personal identification number). The NC Kids Digital Library offers more than 5,000 titles for children in preschool through Grade 4. There are 1,000 titles available for simultaneous use, which means that multiple people can check out the materials at the same time; just look for the "never-ending reading" shelf. Access the N.C.
