North Carolina Cooperative Extension 

The Dare County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension serves to enrich the lives, the land and the economy of North Carolinians. Extension programs enhance the work of government and nonprofit agencies to improve the quality of life for county residents. Focusing on traditional and changing needs in community and rural development, Dare County Cooperative Extension offers a wide variety of innovative programs with something for everyone.

Virginia S. Tillett Community Center

The Virginia S. Tillett Community Center is a multi-generational facility on Roanoke Island that provides resources, programs and activities designed to enhance the lives of Dare County citizens. There is something for everyone at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center, including arts and crafts classes, exercise classes, cooking classes, health and wellness programs, trips, health fairs, community potlucks, estate planning, technology classes, tax assistance, Medicare assistance, and much more.

Friends of Youth

The mission of the Dare County Friends of Youth mentoring program is to place at-risk youths between the ages of 6 and 17 with caring adult volunteers who serve as role models and friends. Adult volunteer mentors provide the youths with one-on-one time for a few hours twice a month in activities that build self-esteem, strong character and friendship, helping the youth to strengthen ties at home and in school.

The Fessenden Center 

The Fessenden Center is a multi-generational facility serving all of Hatteras Island with programs and activities for toddlers, youth, adults, older adults and families. The Fessenden Center staff seeks to provide professionally designed and supervised programs that benefit all ages and interests in areas such as athletics, arts, wellness and general leisure programming. 

Thomas A. Baum Senior Center

The Thomas A. Baum Senior Center provides Dare County residents and visitors who are 55 and older with a variety of programs and activities to promote active and healthy lifestyles for older adults and provides opportunities for recreation, socialization, nutrition and health support services.

Transportation 

The Dare County Transportation Service (DCTS) provides residents and visitors of Dare County with a low-cost transportation alternative. All transportation appointments are required to be scheduled a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

Community of Juvenile Services 

The Community of Juvenile Services, which is funded by the Dare County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, consists of four components that strive to reduce juvenile delinquency: Dare County Teen Court; Dare County Community Service and Restitution; Youth Accountability and Counseling Services; and Community of Juvenile Services Psych.
