This “On the Job” video is designed to educate and inform residents and visitors about the various services that are provided by the Dare County Transportation Department and its staff members.

Dare County Transportation System vans are operated by grants from the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Public Transportation Division as well as funds from Dare County. Dare County Transportation System may not operate in competition with private transportation, such as a taxi (same-day or immediate service or charter service van dedicated to a group/function). Therefore, a two-day notice for transportation is required in order to prepare a daily schedule for the county's door-to-door service.

Dare County Transportation System vans are maintained by the Dare County Maintenance Department. All vans are equipped with cell phones. Riders will be given a calling card when exiting the van and may call the van when they are ready for their return trip.

For your safety, drivers may assist riders while boarding and exiting the vans; however, if a rider needs further assistance, the rider is responsible for having someone accompany them inside the residence and/or having someone accompany them while riding in the vans.

Dare County Transportation provides public transportation within Dare County from Monday through Friday. "Out of County" transportation for medical appointments is also provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
