Special Proceedings involve cases such as foreclosures, motor vehicle liens, name changes, adoptions, partitions of real property, incompetency and guardianship proceedings. These types of actions involve substantial legal rights and obligations that may be forever lost if not asserted in a timely manner and in the proper form. You should strongly considering consulting with an attorney to represent you in these type of cases.

If you are seeking to have someone involuntary committed contact the Magistrate’s office at 252.475.9228.

The fee for filing a special proceeding is $120.00 with the exception of foreclosures that require a filing fee of $300.00. Additional fees also apply to foreclosures, general guardianships and guardians of the estate.

The Assistant Clerk in charge of Special Proceedings is Mrs. Katie Vann. She may be reached at 252 .475.5236.
