The Register of Deeds accepts passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. 

U.S. citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports at the Dare County Register of Deeds Office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment, please call 252-475-5970. Please note: we are a Passport Acceptance Facility and not a Passport Agency.

Fees

Application Fees: The U.S. Department of State fees are collected at the time of application by the Register of Deeds. Fees will vary based what type of passport you are applying for. Click here to view the United States Passport Fees.

  • Checks (personal, certified, cashier's, traveler's) and money orders payable to "U.S. Department of State"
  • Credit and debit cards CANNOT be accepted

$35 Execution (Acceptance) Fee Paid Separately to Register of Deeds:

  • Money orders
  • Personal checks and cash 
  • Credit cards and Debit cards

The Application and Execution fee are non-refundable. They are collected and retained by law even if a passport is not issued.
